Razer Mamba Wireless Gaming Laser Mouse 5600 DPI

Let me first start off by saying that this is an excellent gaming mouse. From the packaging, to the wow factor of opening and installing the mouse, to the overall look and feel is fantastic. I've had this mouse and been testing it for about a month now. Things were great in the beginning but now it's starting to get downright annoyingly frustrating. First of which is the horrible battery life. The wireless feature gives you the freedom to game without a cord with outstanding performance. Look ma I have no strings! But now I feel so tired. Seriously though, the battery life gives you maybe a half a day's worth of medium to heavy mouse usage, gaming or non-gaming, then drops dead. You can turn down the maximum polling rate, turn off the lighting features, and use a lower dpi setting to save a bit more juice, but that defeats the purpose of this ultra high tech cordless cool looking device now, doesn't it? You do have the option of playing musical chairs by attaching the cord from the wireless receiver to the mouse to charge while you use it (takes a few hours), and then plugging it back to the receiver. Do this a few times and you'll probably be telling yourself, "I should have bought a corded mouse to start with." Now if you can look passed the engineering flaw that is the battery life there is a more pressing issue. The mouse squeaks. I'm not sure if this problem occurs with every Mamba but I have read numerous complaints of this occurring. There are fixes that you can do to shut the rat up, but after paying this amount of money should you have to? Now if you can bear with that make sure you have yourself a great looking 7.1 surround sound gaming headset that doesn't cut in and out of the Windows 7 64-bit OS to save yourself any future annoyance. Razer, please do yourselves a favor and thoroughly test your products and your QUALITY CONTROL practices before issuing out, potentially brilliant, half-ass products to the market. So to conclude this mini review, what you're really paying for is a cool looking packaged light show with a mouse that really wants to be attached to your system and you in more ways than one. Too bad it can't shut up when it drops dead.

It has a very bad connection with computers. I used the mouse on my HP laptop, and only left and right buttons worked. The point couldn't move! The same problem happened on my Macbook Pro! I wanted to love it, but I can't. So don't buy it or you want to take risk!

Not quite as form fitting as some mice out there, but it is a decent fit to my hand. Of course, it should be noted that my hand is attached to a 6'4" male, so it may be a little big.

The rechargeable battery doesn't last all that long and needs to be recharged on an almost daily basis. However, since you can also plug the USB cord directly into the mouse, it isn't a problem, as long as you don't mind a corded mouse.

Very accurate.

I switched to this Mamba from a Logitech Revolution MX - which I loved. Ultimately though, that mouse was a complete piece of crap compared to this Mamba. The Mamba is a FANTASTIC mouse with insane precision and control.

The ONLY thing I miss from my upgrade was the killer scroll wheel (and clutch) from the Revolution MX. But Logitech software was HORRIBLE. (They've also killed the scroll wheel - proving they got it right on the MX by accident).

The Mamba though is an instant win. Totally easy to use, feels great, and very easy to control.

I sometimes put in 14-16 hour days... and if I don't charge this piglet during lunch or whatever, the battery WILL die on me around 14 hours. Being able to just plug it in via the cord ameliorates that problem, but I'd like to see a battery that could hold a charge closer to 24 hours.

That said, the battery life should be fine for most average/NORMAL users. And other than that, I have ZERO complaints about this mouse. In fact, I've totally noticed the impressive accuracy improvements and so on that everyone else has boasted. If your NOT a gamer, you'll LOVE this mouse. If you ARE a gamer, this mouse will give you an extra edge - no two ways about it.

This really is the best mouse you can buy. It's great for gaming or non-gaming uses. It's beautiful. It's accurate. It's comfortable.

But it's totally overpriced.

If you can afford it, get it.
